Music Theory Instruction
To study Music Theory is to explore how music works. Beginning theory students solidify their musical literacy and learn about the fundamentals of pitch relationships (intervals, triads), rhythm and meter.
More advanced students study harmony and counterpoint by composing their own written exercises and analyzing great pieces from past eras as well as their favorite music of today. All theory students continually work on improving their musicianship, which involves sight-singing, ear-training and keyboard skills.
Theory lessons are for anyone at any age who wants a better understanding of the music they play or sing. This is an excellent way to prepare for the AP Music Theory Exam, as well as placement tests at the college level (sometimes used as admissions criteria) for students wishing to take music classes.
