Instrumental Instruction

Learning to play an instrument has many advantages: it provides a venue for self-expression and creativity, fosters a strong work ethic, and opens up worlds of opportunities for participation in ensembles and other special programs. Best of all, each student builds a foundation for lifelong enjoyment of the arts. We currently offer private lessons in all instruments, in all musical styles, to students of all ages. Not only are our teachers highly educated, experienced, and performing at the top of their craft, but they are nurturing and enthusiastic about making instrumental lessons fun and inspiring.

Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro looking to brush up, we have the teacher for you! Tell us which instrument you would like to study, and don't hesitate to specify styles that most interest you (classical, jazz, rock, bluegrass, klezmer - you name it)!

Piano Instruction

Piano has always been a favorite instrument of study. In addition to providing the benefits listed above, the piano allows beginner musicians to visualize the keyboard and to develop an intuitive understanding of music theory. As a result, the piano provides the building blocks for composition in a variety of musical styles, including classical and jazz.

Strings Instruction

It has been said that the stringed instruments most resemble the human voice, and maybe partly for this reason, the violin, viola, cello and double bass have always been popular musical instruments of study. Importantly, violin, viola, cello and double bass are staples of the orchestra and other standard classical string ensembles, including string quartets. One also often sees a stringed instrument as part of a band - the electric or amped violin, viola, cello and double bass have become favorites of several genres of music. The string bass is a staple of jazz ensembles.

The guitar is not an orchestral instrument, but has always been a favorite. With our music instruction, you will master how to sing and play your favorite songs.

The harp is a beautiful plucked string instrument with Egyptian origins from over 6000 years ago. In harp lessons with Ivy Bound Music, students will learn the proper hand and pedal techniques that will serve them in solo, chamber, and orchestral opportunities

Wind Instruction

Woodwinds and brass instruments have been evolving for several centuries. The trumpet was a regular member of royal courts, while some other instruments first evolved as orchestral instruments. Today, wind players regularly participate in wind and jazz ensembles, and as regular members of symphony orchestras. Our tutors will teach you the necessary and virtuostic breathing techniques used by the world's top wind players.

In addition to providing you with music lessons, we will help you find the right instrument size and quality, and will assist you in the pros and cons of renting versus buying your instrument.
